STA Practitioners-Level Horary Course: Hepburn Springs, Australia - 5-11 November 2016

Hepburn Springs horary course

The STA’s uniquely structured horary course is suitable for any astrologer with a secure understanding of basic astrological principles and some experience of drawing up and interpreting charts. Previous experience in horary is not necessary - the course provides a full theoretical overview of the subject and highlights the most useful and reliable principles of judgement. In addition to showing how to most-effectively draw out the meaning of a chart, it also focusses on preparing astrologers for the sensitive issues that arise within the horary consultation process.

The course offers a practitioners level of certification, and by the end of the course any astrologer who is already capable of offering a professional astrology service will be ready to begin offering horary to clients. The course is also a requisite qualification for anyone wishing to undertake the advanced level of study and tutorial mentorship offered in the STA Master's Level Horary Course.

The course material, written by Deborah Houlding, explores the methodology, theory, history and practical application of horary technique. It places a strong emphasis on learning through typical client-scenarios, with consideration also given to informative historical examples. Although traditional techniques lie at the heart of the study, the course is geared towards the consulting needs of the modern horary astrologer and a wide range of typical (and unusual) horary queries are covered (including lost items/missing pets and people, relationships/emotional dilemmas, property/career/financial concerns).

Students are guided towards developing refined focus, and taught the most efficient way to extract the pertinent details of the astrological symbolism. Each lesson allows the opportunity to explore and consolidate what is being taught through a selection of various chart examples, and the course is designed to offer an accumulated knowledge of traditional doctrines in a balanced way, so that theoretical principles enlighten and facilitate (rather than overwhelm) the creative aspect of horary interpretation.

This residential event delivers the course material over three consecutive days of tuition, followed by one free day for relaxation, then another three consecutive days of tuition. The beginning of each day's tuition commences with a small period set aside for questions and review of the previous day’s material. Lessons are structured as tutorials followed by group discussion with in-the-moment exercises, thought-provoking questions and consolidation of principles through horary chart practice.

All necessary course materials are provided: students receive just under two hundred pages of personalised course notes which serve as the course textbook and include explanations of key principles, workbook-style activities, example horaries and answer sheets.

Course policies, requirements and recommendations:

  • Participants should have a good understanding of general astrological principles, including planets, signs, houses, aspects and transits.

  • Chart calculation is not taught as part of this syllabus, except for techniques that are specific to horary astrology (such as planetary hours and the calculation of planetary dignity scores, etc). Participants will be expected to have had previous experience of drawing up and interpreting astrological charts before undertaking this study of horary.

  • This course is restricted to a small number of enrolments to allow for individual attention, a friendly and encouraging atmosphere and an ideal number of participants for workshop exercises and group-work; therefore places on this course are limited to a maximum of 18 students. The venue offers only a small number of single rooms, so most delegates, booking at the standard rate, should expect to be twinned with another same-sex student in double rooms.

  • Whilst delegates are not required to attend any supplementary additions to the syllabus that are marked as optional events for certification purposes, their costs are non-transferable and no substitutions or refunds can be given for non-participation.

  • In the unlikely event of the course being cancelled or postponed, the School of Traditional Astrology will refund any course fees and deposits but will not be liable for any other costs incurred by attendees (travel insurance is advisable for this reason).

The fee per student is $1975 AUD. A small number of single rooms are available, the price for which is $2250.

The cost of this full-board residential course includes all course materials and qualifying certificate, plus breakfast Sunday through Friday; lunch Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; and dinner at the venue for four days: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. Lunch is not provided on the free day (Tuesday) and there will be a celebratory dinner on Thursday evening at a local restaurant.

Please note that the accommodation is twin share with a limited number of single rooms to be had on a first-come basis (price suppliment applies - see above for details). All rooms have en-suite bathrooms.

The School of Traditional Astrology will have exclusive use of the available accomodation at Continental Houses during the week of our course, and delegates will have access to the whole house including the kitchen, in which personal snacks can be prepared if desired.
